What to Wear for a Personal Branding Photoshoot (UK Edition)

What to Wear for a Personal Branding Photoshoot (UK Edition)

The question every client asks: “What should I wear?”

And honestly, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer — because what works for a personal trainer won’t work for a celebrant, a copywriter, or a restaurant owner. That said, there are some tried-and-tested tips that work across the board.

👗 1. Think Brand First, Not Trend First

What colours, styles, or textures feel like you and your brand? Are you bold and quirky? Sleek and minimal? Warm and welcoming?

Let your clothes reflect that. If your brand colours are mustard and navy — bring that in. If you sell energy and creativity — go playful with textures or pops of colour.

🎯 2. Choose 2–3 Outfits Max

No need to bring your whole wardrobe. I usually recommend:

  • One clean, simple outfit you could wear for LinkedIn/press

  • One more expressive outfit that shows off your personality

  • One optional wild card for something more playful or creative

❌ 3. Avoid These

  • Distracting logos or slogan tees (unless it’s your brand)

  • Neon colours or harsh patterns (they can blow out on camera)

  • Super baggy clothes — they often hide posture and can make you look less confident

👠 4. Accessorise with Intention

Layering, bold jewellery, glasses, or even props (like a mug, notebook, camera, laptop) can bring storytelling into the frame — without overdoing it.

🌦 5. Location & Weather Matter (This Is the UK, After All)

If we’re shooting outdoors or in multiple locations, think layers. Bring a coat or jacket you’d actually wear — it might end up in a shot.

And don’t forget to bring comfy shoes for walking between set-ups, even if you’re swapping them for heels in shot.

🧳 Bonus Tip: Pack It Smart

Use a suitcase or sturdy bag to keep things tidy and wrinkle-free. Bring a mirror, comb, and blotting paper (especially for summer or under studio lights).

Still Not Sure?

Don’t stress. I send all my branding clients a short prep guide and help you plan your outfits ahead of time — so you show up feeling confident and ready to go.
